MANTECH’s MT5 marks our evolution to bring simple water quality analyzers to municipal and industrial users.  These important users, operating the drinking and wastewater treatment plants, have long suffered with multiple scattered analysis stations to do their critical jobs, and having to “write down” results on bench sheets.  The operators try to remember: Is the pH meter calibrated? Is that glass buret with alkalinity titrant purged?, etc.  With the NEW MANTECH Pro software, operators and engineers can now benefit from a centralized, simple to use and SMART software system that can do this job, all in one.  Parameters include:

TAN / TBN is a required analysis for the petrochemical sector. MANTECH’s automation has made the analysis of these parameters quick and easy. Using multiple static rinse stations ensures that no contamination occurs between samples and that analysis is performed correctly; first the probes are rinsed in toluene, then IPA and then finally in DI water.
 

MANTECH systems also include an extraction pump to eliminate sample handling after analysis in order to ensure the safety of analysts.

Total Base number (TBN) Analysis experiment measures the quantity of basic components in an oil sample. It can be considered as a measure of the alkalinity of the oil, or of the oil’s ability to neutralize acids produced during combustion.

Total acid number (TAN) experiment measures the quantity of acidic components in an oil sample.

Total acid number (TAN) determination involves the addition of a tri-solvent – made from equal parts of chloroform, toluene and 2-propanol with a small amount of water – to an oil sample. Chloroform is not required, but is used for Total Base Number (TBN) analysis, therefore, the same solvent can be used to avoid manual switching of solvents when both methods are being run. Once dissolved, the sample is titrated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide to an inflection endpoint. A backup set endpoint using the millivolt value from the pH 11 buffer reading during calibration is simultaneously calculated in the case of a weak inflection.

CY-5  LABORATORY BOD5 ANALYZER

Pour water sample into a culture bottle with sodium hydroxide in seal cup on bottle mouth, then seal the bottle and put in the incubator, keep the temperature at 20 1  and continuously stirring for 5 days. Organic matter in the sample will be converted to the oxides of nitrogen, carbon and sulfur because of the biological oxidation. During this process, the only gas (CO2) overflow from the sample then is absorbed by sodium hydroxide. At the same time, oxygen consumption of microorganism results in air pressure difference. The BOD5 value can be calculated through measuring the height of the mercury.
